Kathak exponent Gauri Diwakar performs at Spring Dales

Known for her elegant moves and striking facial expressions, Kathak exponent Ms Gauri Diwakar regaled the staff and students of Spring Dale Senior School during a scintillating performance in the school campus organized under the aegis of Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY).

Ms Diwakar started the recital with Ganesh Vandana. She held the staff and students spell bound by her rendition of various expressions, dance movements and stunning footwork. While interacting with the students, Ms Diwakar talked about the finer nuances of the dance, which traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient Northern India.

Stating that the performance enabled the students to understand the finer nuances of Kathak, Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that Ms Diwakar is a versatile, energetic performer, who has created a niche for herself and is a regular across several national and international dance festivals.

“An 'A' Grade artist with the national broadcaster Doordarshan, she is credited with a number of noted solo performances. She is also an empanelled artist with Indian Council for Cultural Relations,” he said.
