Spring Dales pay rich tributes to Hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand
The staff and students of Spring Dale Senior School paid rich tributes to India’s Hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of his 111th Birth Anniversary celebrations observed as National Sports Day by organizing inter-class badminton matches on this occasion.
Addressing the students, Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that the aim behind organizing the event was to encourage students to partake of sports events. “Be it cricket or hockey, students should make it a point to indulge in at least one sport daily to help them stay fit and fine,” he said.
He added that events such as this play an important role in making the youth aware of the importance and heritage of sports and iconic figures in the field of sports, besides inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship among them. Mr Sharma further said that the Spring Dale Educational Society was already contributing to the promotion of Hockey in the region.
“One of our students Ramandeep, groomed by and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy is at present playing in the National team and is bringing laurels to the school and Indian hockey tradition,” he said.
Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema, Director, Spring Dale Senior School and Mr Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Managing Trustee, Spring Dale Educational Society, while talking about the initiatives taken by the institution to impart hockey training to urban and rural youth through Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy, reiterated their commitment to work towards the promotion of hockey among the youth, on this occasion.
