9th Annual Maa Boli Mela
Punarjyot & Spring Dale Senior School continued with its tradition of hosting Annual Maa Boli Mela which is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr. Shivinder Singh Sandhu and Mrs. Manveen Sandhu who devoted their entire life for the promotion of the culture of Punjab. Their love for the Punjabi culture had played a vital role in the foundation of PUNARJYOT which not only enables people to explore all the possible avenues of our Mother tongue but also to conserve and promote their culture. Maa Boli Mela is hosted under the aegis of Amritsar Sahodaya School Complex in which students from different CBSE Schools participate in the variety of competitions and workshops. This year the event saw a spirited participation of over 70 students from 11 different schools. The brilliant performance of the students in 5 different events like Speech Competition, Quiz, Calligraphy and Poetry Recitation Competition kept the audience spell bound for three hours.
As per the tradition, the host school did not compete to give a fair chance to all the participating teams of the event. Cambridge International School, Amritsar won the 1st prize in Debate Competition and Poetry Recitation categories & Modern High School, Amritsar stood 1st in Calligraphy Divine Will Public School, Batala stood 1st in Quiz. This year Maa Boli Mela paid a loving tribute to a legendary figure, Amrita Pritam with special emphasis on the recitation of her melodious poetry so that her greatness as a Punjabi poet reaches every heart present there.
Maa Boli Mela is not just a platform to celebrate the richness of Punjabi language and culture, it also endeavours to explore the avenues of promotion of Punjabi language especially with the on set of digital technology, internet and other media which is taking a toll on the regional languages. Therefore a seminar was organized to aware the participants about the healthy use of multimedia and the internet. The Principal, Mr. Rajiv Kumar Sharma, mentioned “In this increasingly digital world, the need of the hour is to give a digital touch to our Punjabi language to keep it alive in the hearts of techno-savvy people which will definitely safeguard and promote our Mother Tongue.”
The Director, Dr. Kirat Sandhu Cheema who is also the Director of Punarjyot expressed her sense of pride at the effort of the school to continue their endeavour of promoting Punjabi Culture which was initiated by her parents. The Managing Trustee, Mr. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu expressed that Spring Dale Senior School always stands for the good causes and efforts will always be made to support such initiatives. He also thanked the participating teams for their overwhelming response to the event, Maa Boli Mela.
