Health department sensitizes Spring Daleans about H1N1 virus

With a view to spreading awareness among the management, staff and students of Spring Dale Senior School about the ravages of swine flu, its prevention and cure, the officials of the health department organized a seminar in the school’s premises in collaboration with the Health and Wellness Club of the School.

Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that health experts gave a talk on swine flu in which they apprised the students of the deadliness of the disease and the need to tackle it by taking preventive measures. “The talk concentrated on ways and means in which swine flu spreads, its symptoms, the preventive measures that need to be taken to keep it at bay, and the treatment available in the city,” he said.

He added that the staff and students were also shown a short film about the H1N1 virus, its spread and the preventions that should be taken. “Students were asked to abstain from physical contact or interactions with infected persons, to wash hands after touching surfaces that are likely to be infected, cover hands and face while coughing and sneezing, using hand sanitizers, and avoiding visits to crowded places,” Mr Sharma said.

Terming the session as highly informative for the students, Mr Sharma said that it also helped dispel various myths associated with swine flu. “The students realized that like other flu viruses, the H1N1 virus spreads from one person to another and not be consuming particular foods that are often attributed to its proliferation. They also came to know that a healthy diet can help improve their immunity thereby making them immune to the noxious virus,” Mr Sharma added.
