Guftagu with Gulzar at the Partition Museum & Kharashein, a play based on his Partition stories, launches the Arts and Literature Festival of Amritsar (ALFA 2017) The Partition Museum (an initiative of the The Arts And Cultural Heritage Trust ) is proud to announce the launch of the Arts and Literature Festival of Amritsar (ALFA 2017) with events showcasing the selected works and memories of the eminent poet and screenplay writer Gulzar. The events include ‘Guftagu with Gulzar at the Partition Museum’. In a
conversation with poet Sukrita Paul Kumar, Gulzar will map his memories of Partition. Later in the evening, the critically acclaimed play ‘Kharaashein’ based on the writings of Gulzar on Partition will be performed at the Guru Nanak Dev University auditorium, Amritsar.
The play directed by Mumbai based Salim Arif of Essay Communications is a collage of Gulzar’s literary creations. It has received rave reviews and opened to packed theatres. The cast comprises of prominent television, film and theatre personalities from Mumbai including Atul Kulkarni (Rang De Basanti) and Yashpal Sharma (Company and Lagaan) .
“The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, a charitable NGO, is honoured to invite such a sensitive and iconic poet as Gulzar sahib —and the play based on his Partition writings—- to Amritsar. The mandate of The Arts And Cultural Heritage Trust is to not only set up the Partition Museum but to also create interaction and dialogue through cultural events which will run throughout 2017, the 70th year since the Partition of India. We will be inviting authors, poets,artists, musicians, singers—from India and abroad to explore different facets of
the Partition, and the important historical role of Punjab and Bengal . We are also very interested in exploring the cultural and social importance of Amritsar, ” said Kishwar Desai, Chair, The Arts And Cultural Heritage Trust ( TAACHT).
Vikramjit Singh Sahney, a Trustee of TAACHT and head of the Sun Group, said ‘The launch of the Arts And Literary Festival of Amritsar (ALFA) is being done through Gulzar sahib who is a great artiste. We hope to make this one of the best literary festivals in the country — as Amritsar with its rich history and cultural contribution deserves to have a world class festival , and we do hope everyone will support the Partition Museum and ALFA, which will be annual event.’

‘Guftagu with Gulzar, conducted by Sukrita Paul Kumar ’- 12 noon, 5th February 2017 at the Partition Museum, Town Hall , Amritsar
“Kharaashein, play based on the stories of Gulzar”- 5 pm, 5th February 2017 at the Guru Nanak Dev University auditorium, Amritsar .
‘Guftagu with Gulzar’ is a public event and passes will be available in advance at the Partition offices at Town Hall, Amritsar and at 39, Khan Market, Delhi.
Giving details about the partition museum Mr. Sahney shared that the museum was an inaugurated in Oct 2016 and its main objective is to collect the documents and other proofs related to the partition and to further share the information with the public.
