Spring Daleans come face-to-face with the legacy of Bhagat Puran Singh
The students of Spring Dale Senior School on Thursday came face-to-face with the legacy of Bhagat Puran Singh, the legendary philanthropist of Amritsar, who laid the foundation stone of the school almost 35 years ago, during the screening of ‘Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe’, a movie based on his life.
Bhagat Puran Singh is known for establishing the Pingalwara, a home for the destitute, currently being run under the aegis of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (AIPCS). A prolific writer, he wrote extensively on philanthropic and environmental issues. He was honoured with Padma Shri award in 1979, which he returned after the Indian army’s attack on the Golden Temple in 1984.
Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that the movie afforded the students with a chance to explore the legacy of Bhagat Puran Singh, who dedicated his life for the welfare of the destitute. “Bhagatji laid the foundation stone of our school, which is not just a matter of pride, but also a great honour for us all,” he said.
He added that the school was committed to upholding the cause of the elderly and the downtrodden through various acts of philanthropy. Mrs Harneet Kaur Bubbar, Vice Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, was also present on the occasion.
