UPSC topper visits alma mater as Chief Guest to inspire schoolmates
In a memorable moment for Spring Dale Senior School, its management, staff and students, Mr Anmol Sher Singh Bedi, an outstanding alumnus, who had once walked up the aisle to receive awards for his academic, sports and co-curricular feats, through the previous editions of Zenith, the annual prize distribution ceremony of the school, returned as Chief Guest to grace Zenith 2017 and felicitate and inspire the potential achievers of the school.
Zenith was different this year as besides Mr Bedi, the 2017 edition of Zenith featured Dhroon Tickoo, the School’s singing sensation, who regaled the entire nation with his melodic voice in Saregamapa Little Champs aired on Zee TV, Ananya Sharma, who debuted in Aamir Khan starrer Bollywood Blockbuster Dangal and a host of other bright stars from Spring Dale Senior School.
“I consider it as a homecoming and a personal honor to return as Chief Guest at the institution that helped me attain the heights I am enjoying at present,” Mr Bedi said, as he stood on the other side of the podium, handing out prizes to young achievers.
Once a regular face among the achievers of Spring Dale Senior School at the previous editions of Zenith – the annual awards ceremony of the school, Mr Bedi was extended a hero’s welcome on his arrival in the school premises. He holds the distinction of bagging the All India Rank 2 in UPSC and the first rank among the males appearing in the UPSC exam in 2017, in the first attempt.
As a student at Spring Dale Senior School, he enjoyed a high achieving academic and co-curricular record. He graduated from Spring Dale Senior School in 2012 in the science stream. He completed his graduation from BITS, Pilani, securing 92 percent marks in the aggregate, in 2016, appearing for the UPSC Exam simultaneously.
He was a very active member of the school’s Student Council, an avid contestant in the Bournvita Quiz Contest, and was among the team that represented the school in various National Olympiads. He was a member of the school team of 12 students, which participated in the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre, Houston, USA, and was the only team from India to qualify for the International Space Settlement Design Competition.
Mr Bedi was one of the top 500 out of 1.5 lakh individuals, who appeared for BITSAT and was the city topper in the same. Well-versed with Hebrew besides English, Hindi and Punjabi, Mr Bedi was selected for a fully funded undergraduate thesis at Ghent University, Belgium, as well as the prestigious Masters in Science at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He secured high distinctions in International Assessments for Indian Schools conducted by University of New South Wales Australia. He was a member of the School Quiz team. His team won the Bournvita Quiz at the State level.
Extending a warm welcome to Mr Bedi, Mr Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said that the 2017 edition of Zenith was a lot different from the previous award functions. “This is because a former Spring Dalean, who once used to be a part of the crowd of achievers lined up in front of the podium to receive their honors has returned as a Chief Guest to honor the institution that gave him wings to fly,” he said.
Welcoming Mr Bedi’s return to the school as a Chief Guest, he said that the institution was actually proud of the achievements of Mr Bedi, who had enjoyed an impeccable and outstanding academic, co-curricular and sports record during his stint as a student in Spring Dale Senior School. “The school wishes for him and every Spring Dalean, who regards him as an inspiration, to touch ever greater heights,” he said.
Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that more than 256 achievers of the school walked up the aisle to receive awards for achievements in academics, various Olympiads, co-curriculars and selections to foreign universities. These achievers included students, who have secured admissions to prestigious universities and colleges in India and abroad after clearing international level exams and various other selection criteria, as well as others, who have obtained top worldwide, national and state-level ranks in various Olympiads.
