Hockey players from Spring Dales win CBSE North Zone I and II Hockey Tournament
Selected for nationals to be held at Coorg
Budding hockey players from Spring Dale Senior School once again proved their mettle at the CBSE North Zone I and II Hockey Tournament by defeating hosts Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha, Ludhiana by 3-1. In view of their outstanding performance at the tournament, the team has been selected for the hockey nationals to be held at Coorg, Karnataka.
Giving details, Mr Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said that the school’s hockey team competed with 32 teams from different CBSE schools to make it to the finals of the event.
“The final match was played between our team and hosts Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha. Our team won the match by a score of 3-1 and has been chosen to participate in the hockey nationals to be held at Coorg, Karnataka,” he said.
He added that Pawan Mittal, a member of the school’s hockey team, was declared the Best Goal Keeper of the tournament, while Anil, another player from the School’s team, was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament.
Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema, Director, Spring Dale Senior School, and Mr Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Managing Trustee, Spring Dale Educational Society, congratulated the winners. They said that hockey is one sport that the school had been promoting for the past many years.
They further said that the efforts of Spring Dale Educational Society in imparting specialized training to future hockey Olympians could be judged from the fact that a number of potential players take training under national and international level coaches at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy.
“These students have been integrated in main stream education while they are studying in Spring Dale Senior School. They are provided with free education including books, stationery and study material to them, while special provisions have also been made for their diet and full access to infrastructural and IT facilities,” they said.
They added that besides this, Baba Bhila Singh Hockey Academy was founded by late Dr Shivinder Singh Sandhu in village Narli in pursuance with the aim of enabling hockey to emerge as a popular sport among the rural youth.
